About the Exhibition
June 07 - June 29
Join us as we commemorate 50 years of Southeast Asians living in Minnesota for a special Pride Month gallery exhibit.
We want to recognize our journeys in making Minnesota home and celebrate and center the art and stories of our
LGBTQIA+ community.
It has been 50 years since Southeast Asian people have made their home in Minnesota and 50 years since the end of the wars in Southeast Asia, a crucial moment for those part of the diaspora. A moment that shifted us from our homelands to create new lives in this country. We view this moment as a portal. A time to look backwards as well as into the future.
In this reflection the words of Ocean Vuong have guided us, “Being queer saved my life. Often we see queerness as deprivation. But when I look at my life, I saw that queerness demanded an alternative innovation from me. I had to make alternative routes; it made me curious; it made me ask, ‘Is this enough for me?’”
We think of the routes our families took as they worked to make this place home. We think of our divergent paths as we live authentically, celebrating our queerness. We use our queer imagination to envision new ways of being. And we hope to carry this curiosity into the next 50 years as we continue to ask for more.
Please celebrate queer Southeast Asian community with us with special performances on June 7!
