Host an Exhibition!

You Envision. You Curate.

Want to showcase and/or curate an exhibit to highlight your work? This unique opportunity calls upon artists to be involved in all facets of the exhibit planning and installation of their work, to be innovative and professionally produce an exhibit in a gallery setting.

The selected artist will receive a stipend of $1,000 and have an opportunity to be showcased for

8 - 12 weeks. With every exhibition, XIA will host an Opening Reception to celebrate the first day.

 

Artists are welcomed to submit pervious or new work.

Artists are also welcome to collaborate with other artists to do a collaborative exhibition.

Creative work can be visual designs/animations, embroidery, sculptures, and more. 

We welcome Asian artists to curate their own exhibition or to curate a collaborative exhibition.

What we are looking for

  • Must be 18 years or older

  • Must identify as Asian heritage

Application Material Requirements

  • Artist Headshot

  • Artist Statement

  • Exhibit Proposal w/ Visual Samples to support your proposal. Proposals must clearly state:

    • Title of exhibition 

    • Description of exhibition (for example, but not limited to: what is your exhibition about? why are you wanting to curate this exhibition or why is it important?). The description of the exhibition should be one page to two pages long double spaced, 12 pt font, Times New Roman.

    • 4 - 5 visual samples with brief descriptions should represent your exhibition and/or support your proposal. Each visual sample should be dedicated to it's own page. ​​

About the Selection Process

XIA Gallery & Cafe's Arts & Culture Team will review every application and select one artist (or a collaborative group) to be featured in the next exhibition.

Program Requirments

As part of our Arts and Cultural Programming, Artist must participate in 2 virtual courses:
1. Financial Literacy Virtual Course
2. Digital Literacy Virtual Course

Q&A

  • What are the next steps after completing the application?

When your application is accepted, you will be contacted with an official contract.

  • How long can I exhibit for?

You can exhibit for 8 - 12 weeks long. 

  • What is the size of the gallery?

The gallery space is about 27' x 20' with 3 blank white walls, the 4th wall are of window-panes. There are also 3 movable walls that are about 8' x 7', blank on both sides.  The movable walls may be shifted around in the gallery room, but may not be removed from the gallery room.

  • Will XIA supply installation materials and other supplies?

Unfortunately, XIA will not supply any installation materials. We will provide a list of resources of installation materials. If you're installation materials requires holes in the wall, please be aware that you must also patch up the holes after tear down of the exhibition. We have the materials for you to patch up the walls.

XIA will provide the tools we have, such as a ladder, stepping stools, drill bit, hammer, sanding, wall patching compound, spatula, white paint, paint brushes, and sanding paper.

  • What about installation for video equipment

Any video equipment and or special installation maintenance is the responsibility of the artist.

  • Do I need to carry art exhibition/gallery insurance?

Artist is responsible to carry adequate art exhibition/gallery insurance to protect your collection. If you do not have art insurance, please contact npausbaim@aedamn.org for resources. 

  • Can I sell my creative pieces that is being showcased in the exhibit?

Yes! Artists are encouraged to offer their work for sale. However, the creative piece must remain in the gallery for the duration of the exhibition, even if it is sold. In addition, you will need to sign a consignment agreement.

  • Can I sell prints of my exhibition piece or additional creative work in XIA's gift shop?

Yes! Artists are responsible for making arrangements for packaging, shipping, delivery and/or pick-up of work sold. Artist must provide final works with prices before the exhibit opening. XIA Gallery will handle displaying yout creative work in the gift shop.

  • What is the commission rate?

The commission rate is 70/30. Artist keeps 70% of their art sales made from their exhibit. XIA will collect 30%. Artist sets the price on all of their work.

  • Does tax get included during sales at the register?

Unfortunately, tax does not get included. You will have to include tax in the prices of your work if you feel that is ideal. 

  • When will I receive payment of my sales?

Artists receive payment of their sales on a monthly basis through direct deposit or a check to their house address.
