April 14, 2024 @1PM - 3PM

April 21, 2024 @1PM - 3PM

about the workshop

april 14th & 21st

In these workshops participants will learn the historical use and importance of copper, some of the human applications and be given examples as well as an opportunity to create a piece for themselves.

The softness of copper makes it readily available for shaping and manipulation by human hands. The perception of metals is that metal is hard and rigid but when working with copper, it imparts a sense of strength, power and control. Copper conducts energy easily and freely so working with such a malleable substance can be deeply therapeutic. Working with copper wire to make jewelry tends to put the conscious mind in a state of deep focus.

We have an unhealthy obsession in our society on diamonds and gold which a lot of time we obtain in a manner destructive to our natural environments and human life. Natural materials like metals and other mineral elements are not just limited to gold, silver, diamonds, platinum and other very expensive substances there are a lot of other minerals and elements that are just as if not more visually appealing. Let's redirect human attention to the rest of what the earth has to offer and maybe even bring attention to ownership of mines for people of color

Costs? FREE!

All supplies will be provided.

I am a natural born artist who has studied and practiced multiple mediums throughout the course of our lives. I started off as a sketch artist with a dream of becoming a comic book artist and this persisted until i was introduce to ceramic sculpture in high school. I had a talent for sculpture and under the direct tutelage of my teacher Vern Andersen and I grew rapidly as a sculptor. Following high school, as I entered my adult years, I began to take part in the local graffiti art scene. I helped various artists with installation pieces and murals through intermedia arts but never pursued my own residency. I began jewelry making at age 23 and it became my primary artistic focus for the last 20 plus years primarily dealing with copper and silver wire wrapped jewelry.
